How to McGeady Spin Cancel

The McGeady Spin is a very commonly used skill move, however in order to make it more advanced you can carry out a “McGeady Cancel” this is done by adding a cancel during the skill animation which allows you to exit in a desired direction.

What star skill moves does a player need to perform the skill?
The McGeady Spin is a 5* skill move, therefore this requires your player to have 5* skill moves. All 5 star skillers in FC 24

How to Perform the McGeady Spin and the “McGeady Cancel”
These instructions are for a player who is facing towards the opposition goal when shooting from left to right

As mentioned above the skill is split into two parts, firstly you will need to perform the McGeady Spin skill move, this can be done when standing still or when moving forward slowly (this cannot be done whilst sprinting)

In order to perform the McGeady Spin, you need to flick your right stick to the Right, and then flick the stick either Up or Down, depending on what direction you want the skill to be performed in, below shows the button combinations for this:

Now to turn the McGeady Spin into a “McGeady Cancel” you will need to carry out a cancel mid skill animation, and whilst cancelling the animation you will also need to choose a direction to exit.

In order to do this, when you see your player is approximately one third to halfway through the McGeady Spin animation you want to press L2/LT and R2/RT at the same time, this will cancel the animation, however once you have pressed this you will need to choose a direction to exit, this is done by pointing your left stick in that direction, below shows the button combinations for this:

It is important to note that you need to execute the McGeady Spin button presses quickly or it will not carry out the McGeady Spin variant of the skill.

When should you use the McGeady Spin and “McGeady Cancel”?
The McGeady Spin is very effective at cutting inside, therefore the best time to use it is when you want to perform a quick cut inside when running down the wing.

The best time to perform the McGeady Cancel is when you are moving toward the byline and you are looking to create some space, the reason for this is that the skill move can create you a lot of space even when you are in a tight space or a crowded box.

Here is an a example of when to use the skill move, in this example you can see that the opponent forced the attacker towards the byline and the space is closing in, by executing the McGeady Cancel and going backwards it draws both defenders towards the byline and then the attacker is able to go backwards and find the easy pass to his teammate.

Overall this skill is one of the more advanced skill moves, however it is one of the most frequently used skill moves by pros due to how effective it is in game and if you are able to add this to your attacking skill set it will definitely create more goal scoring opportunities for you.
