FIFA 21 Advanced La Croqueta Tutorial

The La Croqueta is one of the most effective new skill moves added into FIFA in the past few years. In FIFA 19, it could be chained infinitely, making it one of the most overpowered aspects of the meta that year. In FIFA 20, its effectiveness was heavily reduced as part of EA’s overall nerf to chaining skill moves together. In FIFA 21, EA have struck a nice balance between the two extremes of the previous two FIFAs, and the La Croqueta is a viable skill move again for the first time in two years.

In order to execute the La Croqueta properly, you need to be using a player with a minimum of 4 star skills. On PlayStation, you need to hold L1 and move the right analogue stick left or right, depending on which way you want the player to move while executing the La Croqueta. On Xbox, you need to hold LB and move the analogue stick left or right. The controls are similar to the ones required to execute the ball roll, which is executed the same way, just without L1/LB.

One of the most effective ways to use the La Croqueta is when attacking the end line. When controlling a player who’s near the end line, the number one goal is to try and get the ball squared into the box for an attacker to create a scoring opportunity. The La Croqueta is a very good option to achieve that goal. When you’re running towards the end line, a fake shot into a stationary position is an excellent way to set up a La Croqueta, because your player always ends up facing the goal, meaning you can seamlessly switch into a La Croqueta because you know in advance which direction you need to hold the right analogue stick in order to pull it off successfully. After the fake shot, you can either use the La Croqueta to sidestep the defender and put the ball into the box, or you can take your time, evaluate your options, and adjust accordingly.

Mastering the fake shot into a stationary position followed by a La Croqueta combo is key, because it also helps with something called diagonal realignment. Rather than attacking the end line, you want to use diagonal realignment when you’re running at an angle away from goal. If your opponent is defending properly, he’ll be tracking your run with a defender to stop you from running past and getting into a crossing situation. To counter this, sprint at the angle away from goal and then execute the fake shot into a stationary position, and then pull off the La Croqueta so that you’re cutting inside. If your opponent is slow to react, his defender will still be sprinting on your original angle away from goal, and you will have a ton of space in the box to attack the goal and score.

The La Croqueta is also effective when your player is running as well. One way of using a running La Croqueta is with midway exits. This is when you’re on the attack, and you’re looking to pass the ball to another attacker, but the defender is limiting your options. When attacking, the goal is always to get your opponent to commit one way so that one of your attacking options becomes open. Using the La Croqueta, you can bait the defender into choosing a side to defend, which will either open up a path for you to run into, or it will free up a passing lane for you to assist another attacker.

The hardest way to use the La Croqueta is with skill combinations, but they can completely change your attacking game if used correctly. The key to a successful skill combo is being able to identify which skills you’ll need to use in advance so that you can execute them on an instinctive level. If you use a La Croqueta to try and beat a defender, but the defender doesn’t commit to the ball, then you may need another La Croqueta or a different skill move entirely in order to beat the defender or open up a lane for a successful pass or shot. Once you have multiple skill moves mastered, attacking with skills will become more natural and make you a formidable and unpredictable opponent.
