By 1962, Garrincha had established himself as an international star and his reputation was further enhanced with his performances in the 1962 FIFA World Cup™. He played a starring role as Brazil defeated England in the quarter-final and Chile in the semi-final – scoring twice on both occasions. Despite suffering with a heavy fever, Garrincha helped Brazil to lift the Jules Rimet trophy for a second time thanks to a 3-1 win over Czechoslovakia in the final.
